"Golf is the only sport that you can go from loathing it to loving it in such a short time. Hitting that one good shot erases the previous hours of hacking ? at least, in your mind, but not necessarily on the score card. Think of any other sport. If you've thrown eight interceptions as a quarterback, then throw one touchdown while your team's getting blown out, it's not exactly exciting. If you drained a half-court shot to end a basketball game but lost by 40 points, who really cares? In golf, though, that one good shot can completely make your day. That's what I love about the game. And that's one of the many reasons that, in my opinion, golf is the best sport there is. Golf is the only self-regulating sport there is, it builds more character and integrity than any other sport and it teaches you patience and perseverance. All that, combined with the fact that golf is a sport you can enjoy at any age and any level of play, and you're not going to be able to convince me that there's anything better. And this is what I was thinking as I walked up the last hole on Saturday. Sure, I was still having one of my worst ball-striking rounds since I was about 12, but, after sticking it to about 3 feet for birdie on my final hole, all was forgotten. So, instead of storming off the course and selling my clubs, like I wanted to after about four holes, I'm now counting down the days until I'll get to do it all over."
